When Gina Anzaldua Stevenson captured Dallas police officer Andre Cloyd and his K9 partner Zigi taking a selfie together in the Dallas Love Field Airport she had no idea that the picture would become so popular. However, after uploading it, the photo managed to gain more than 61,000 likes and 49,000 shares! Not bad at all!
At first, Stevenson took the photo because she thought it was cute and had originally mistaken the K-9 officer for being a pet. However, she soon learned that the 3.5-year-old German shepherd, Zigi, was actually a K-9 officer. After snapping the adorable moment between the officer partners, Stevenson decided to upload it to the Facebook page, Dogspotting Society.

Cloyd had been unaware that he’d been caught taking a selfie with Zigi – at least until he was pleasantly surprised by the media storm that followed Stevenson’s post. That is when the police officer made his own post on the Dogspotting page in the form of sharing his own selfies from that day – pictures that he and Zigi had taken while enjoying a break together.
As it turned out, the reason for Cloyd and Zigi’s selfies were quite personal. Cloyd is the only family member of his living in North Texas. As anyone who lives remotely from their family knows, daily contact and communication often come in the form of texts and photos.

During that now-famous moment, Cloyd’s mother had sent their family chat a picture to wish everyone a good day. Officer Cloyd was then inspired to respond with a selfie of him and Zigi at their post at the airport.
Besides Zigi, Cloyd also has another dog at home, Bentley. And both dogs are, as he calls them, his “kids.” This officer has been a lifelong animal person, making him perfect for the Dallas Police Department’s K9 Unit. And, as Stevenson’s viral photo so wonderfully demonstrated, he is a natural with his K-9 partner.
Have a safe and productive day, from Zigi, Bentley, and myself🖤
