Dogs and mail couriers – there is a misplaced stereotype that these two are mortal enemies. But in reality, it’s quite the opposite. We hear tons of stories about dogs and different mail couriers becoming the best of friends.
One such courier is Katie Newhouser, who works as a UPS driver in the Rancho Cucamonga area of Southern California. She and Leo the Pit Bull had formed a friendship after Katie often would deliver items to the apartment where he lived. He’d often come out and say hello – even going as far as hopping into her truck for a greeting.
Given their adorable friendship, Katie has uploaded a few photos of Leo and posted them to the UPS Dogs Facebook page, along with the post, “This is Leo …. he would always start barking as I pulled into the condo complex……He would always jump into my truck when I stopped…. his owner passed away and now he lives with me.”
It turns out that last year, their bond was put to the test after Katie came back from vacation only to find out that Leo’s owner had passed away. Distraught by Leo’s uncertain fate, Katie first asked her son if he could take Leo. Katie’s son is a Marine, and couldn’t take on the responsibility of Leo. Katie then offered to foster Leo temporarily, but when she brought him home and saw how well he blended into her family of other dogs, Katie decided that Leo would be her foster fail.

As Katie explained to the Pup Journal, “It was probably confusing for him at first, [but] he has adapted well. He and his brother Moose are inseparable. Bailey, his sister, has taken a while to come around, [but] they actually play now … once Leo was introduced into the house, the whole vibe changed.”
Of course, there was a little bit of an adjustment period. When Katie first introduced Leo to his new home, he was a tad bit sad and would whine, but he quickly came to love his new home and the people in it.
As Katie stated, “He has so much personality, you would think that he is human! He is the sweetest, most lovable dog that you will ever meet.”
We’re so happy that Leo ended up living with someone who cares deeply for him.
