Talented Dog Sells Her Artwork To Raise Money For Charity

Art is subjective. What one person might deem as talent, someone else may just see as colorful doodles. However, there is one type of art that everyone can agree on as being a masterpiece. And that would be anything drawn or painted by a dog.

7-year-old Ivy, an Australian Shepherd from North Carolina is a painting genus. This dog has learned how to paint using acrylic paints. Her owner has been selling her creations in order to raise money for charities helping out with the COVID-19 pandemic.

As impressive as this dog is, according to Southern Living it isn’t her only talent. Her owner, Lisa Kite, a retired nurse, has even taught the intelligent pup to open and close doors, grab drinks from the fridge, and play Jenga!

However, Ivy began her painting career after Kite fashioned her a special paintbrush that she could hold in her mouth. After that, she’s been busy painting and developing her craft – something the dog seems to particularly enjoy.

Kite said, “She’s very opinionated about what she wants to do. Sometimes I’ll say, ‘Don’t add so much of that color. Just put a little.’ But she’ll grab a brush and go crazy with it.”

Kite has revealed that Ivy tends to lean towards the blue color schemes, a fact that makes sense given that dogs are semi color-blind, meaning they most clearly see yellows, blues, and grays. However, the way that Ivy works, is that she likes to use mainly one type of color a day while painting.

Ivy takes roughly 3-4 weeks to finish one painting, and each piece can be sold for as much as $500. Of course, that all is given away to charity. And so far, Kite has managed to sell 600-700 paintings through Instagram, meaning that the pooch’s paintings have been able to raise enough money to buy 2,000 pounds of food for a local food bank!

That is truly amazing! She’s a very, very talented dog.
