Stray Dog Guards Missing Toddler Wandering The Streets

Pitbull dogs often get an unfair rap as being vicious and bloodthirsty canines who are always on the hunt. But anyone who has ever spent time with a Pitbull knows that they’re actually quite gentle and sweet dogs. And they are very loyal as well. There was one Pitbull in Missouri who proved his care and loyalty even though he was a stray. The Pitbull was credited with saving a toddler who had somehow managed to get out of his home. The small child was wandering around on his own when the dog then took the kid under his protection.

The Pitbull and the toddler were then observed walking around a St. Louis neighborhood by a woman who was out with her own dogs. The woman, who remained anonymous, shared that the Pitbull was clearly keeping a very close eye on the kid as they wandered around. Speaking about the child, she said to Fox2News, “He looked well taken care of, he was very neat, very clean; he just didn’t have the shoes on.”

Concerned, the woman started knocking on doors up and down the neighborhood, wanting to see if anyone might know who the little boy might be. But the woman kept coming up empty. Either no one recognized the child or there were no answers at certain homes. Still, the woman pressed on. And throughout the entire ordeal, the Pitbull didn’t leave and continued to stick by the child.

Eventually, the toddler’s father noticed that his son was missing and reached out to the police. The father was then able to be reunited with his son. He even got to meet the loyal dog who cared for his son while he was out of the house. And the woman was happy that she was able to be a part of helping to facilitate the reunion between the kid and his father, stating, “It is important that we stick together, that we help each other, that we go back to the things that our grandparents and their community used to do. That we build a sense of unity.”

As for the heroic Pitbull, his patience and empathy were not lost on the police officers, who are thinking about adding him to the St. Louis police department. Hopefully, this stray pup will get a happily ever after.
