Rescue Dog That Never Had His Own Yard Gets One Built By His Owner’s Boyfriend

Older dogs face a very tough time in the adoption world. Most people gravitate towards the cute little puppies, meaning that the older dogs often get overlooked. Plus, when there are medical issues or behavioral problems like anxiety or stress, it makes it that much harder for older dogs to get placed in a loving home.

The bloodhound in this story had already been in and out for four different households by the time he made it to his forever home with KaTarra Taylor.

Even though Bentley had a forever home with Taylor, he was still struggling with his anxiety. And Taylor was determined to give him the best happily ever after and help him on his journey to manage his anxiety.

When Taylor first adopted Bentley, she was living in a one-bedroom apartment. However, she quickly realized that her living arrangement wasn’t the best for her new pooch, who tipped the scale at 120 pounds. Determined to give him more space, she decided to trade up to a townhouse. So, her and her partner, Nicholas Evenson, moved into the townhouse she purchased.

As Taylor shared with The Dodo, “I ended up buying a townhouse so we could stay together. It had an enclosed patio that I knew he would like. I couldn’t afford a house with a yard, but I thought I could turn the patio into a small yard with the right help.”

While the house may not have come with a yard, Taylor knew just how much Bentley loved grass, so she decided to give him his heart’s desire. It’s what any pet owner would do for their beloved pet.

With the help of Evenson, Taylor managed to carve out a little patch of heaven for Bentley in the concrete patio. As the proud dog mom declared, she and Evenson were able to get it all completed in just one day – and for less that $400.

The work took several hours, and involved hard grafting, until the little green area was finally complete. And the couple were excited to get Bentley’s reaction to his new patch of grass. And it quickly became clear that they had done something entirely wonderful for the pooch.

He absolutely loved it! It was clear this was his new favorite spot – and there was going to be no moving him either. He finally had the garden of his dreams.

Taylor said, “Bentley immediately laid down and just stayed there for several hours. He seems so happy with it.”

It was a wonderful end to his long journey to find a loving forever home. In fact, Bentley clearly had a lot to look forward to in his future, because not only did he have a new green patch, but he ended up gaining a new friend too – both Taylor and Evenson also adopted a senior basset hound named June.
