Valentine’s Day is right around the corner – and it’s a pretty divisive day. While there are some people who love the cards and flowers and romantic dinners, there are also a pretty decent number of us who’d rather spend the holiday of love celebrating with our pets rather than a person.
According to a poll conducted by OnePoll along with the online retailer Zulily, 28% of the 2,000 Americans surveyed have said they have plans to spend their Valentine’s Day with their pet.
And while pets aren’t active participants in capitalism, that doesn’t mean that they’re not a part of it through gift reception. Out of those in the survey, 39.5% of men and 31.76% of women have already said that they’re planning on spoiling their pets rotten come February 14th, with a total of 33% of the survey participants seriously thinking about calling out sick on Valentine’s day in order to give their pets maximum quality attention and affection.

And most of those who are planning to spend Valentine’s Day with a human companion is still keeping their pet in mind on the day, with 34.7% of those surveyed revealing that they want their Valentine’s Day gift to be something that their pet can also enjoy.
Regardless of whether someone is spending Valentine’s Day with a pet or a human, many of the romantics surveyed can agree on one thing: the reason for celebration is all about love.
As the Zulily and OnePoll survey found, 59% of the participants partake in Valentine’s Day in order to show either their pet, partner or child, just how much they mean to them.
Isn’t that sweet? So, come February 14th, don’t forget to hug the ones you love.
