Michigan School Builds Dog Houses For An Animal Shelter As Their Math Project

Given the current state of this world, sometimes we need something to make us hopeful for the future. Nothing does that quite like hearing about the younger generations doing something to help improve this world. One school is doing just that, and it’s definitely making a world of difference to animals.

The Ingham County Animal Shelter, or ICACS, was in desperate need of dog house donations. That is when one local school, stepped up to help fix the problem.

As part of a math project, the Attwood New Tech Magnet School teamed up with the shelter in order to build the dog houses.

Attwood New Tech Magnet School is a project-based learning school. They are hoping that while building these dog houses, their fifth graders will also learn some new skills. But the students aren’t the only ones who will benefit from the dog houses, the shelter dogs definitely will too!

Caitlin Donnelly, from Attwood New Tech Magnet School, said, “This project will teach the standards for math. We’re doing area, perimeter, all that stuff. They’ll also get to learn how to use tools, which is not something they would normally get to do in school.”

While the school does have some funding for the project, donations from the public are still welcome. They can be given to the school’s front office.

In addition, the shelter is still accepting donations to be put towards the dog houses.

As well, if you or someone that you know has a dog house that is no longer in use and you’d like to donate it, please contact Kate Turner at 517-676-8318.

Also, if you would like to help the shelter purchase even more dog houses, you can donate here.

It is always nice to see young people get involved in charity for their community. These dogs will greatly appreciate all the support and help that is being given to them. They deserve kindness too.
