Steven Grieg is a Colorado-based animal lover who has always opened up his home to pets in need.
Steven grew up with multiple pets in his home. As a result, when he became an adult he continued to take in pets in need. Typically, he had 3-4 dogs at a time in his home. Currently, he lives on a large estate where there is plenty of room for all his little furry friends to roam.
Sadly, one of his dogs passed away, and Steve took the loss particularly hard. As a result, he wanted to do something in honor of his doggie’s memory.
So he went to his local shelter and asked for their “least adoptable” dog as he wanted to give this dog a second chance.
“So [I adopted] a 12-year-old Chihuahua [named Eeyore] with a heart murmur and four bad knees and I brought him home and that was just the beginning of all the animals,” Steve said to The Dodo.
Following that, Steve began to take on more animals in need.
Now, Steve has more than senior dogs living in his home. He has also begun to take on other kinds of animals into his home. Since then, he has taken in 2 pigeons as well as 2 ducks – all who needed a home.
He has also adopted Bikini, a pig that a friend was unable to keep. He was excited about taking on Bikini, and the little pig settled in well to the family, bonding pretty well with Enoch, Steve’s Irish Wolfhound.
The adoption spree hasn’t stopped there. Steve also opened up his home to a homeless bunny rabbit that he found hopping around in his front yard. As if it was meant to be, this rabbit ended up being very easygoing – getting along well with the house full of dogs.
Steve has said that he loves to adopt senior dogs. He claims they’re all very low-energy animals who are well-behaved.
“They’re just wiser animals. You kind of know what you want out of life once you become a certain age. These dogs know who they are and it’s easy to develop a relationship with a person or pet who knows who they are,” Steve said.
Steve eventually made the decision to start an Instagram page in order to show off his “wolf gang.” The page quickly began gaining traction among followers, and now, the page has 800,000 followers. Steve is happy that fans of the page are enjoying pictures of the wolf gang in action, but more importantly, Steve wants to show people how great it can be to adopt senior animals.
Steve said, “They just makes it feel like home. It’s just fulfilling knowing that these guys are happy and loved and well-taken care of. It makes my days worthwhile.”
