Lonely Senior Dog Unwraps A Puppy Surprise And It’s Adorable

Watching older dogs interact with younger dogs is always such a treat. But the only thing that is cuter than the generational gap between canines, is watching an older dog unwrap a puppy for Christmas. Dog owner, Marie Ahonen, gave everyone a Merry Christmas when she uploaded a video of her 12-year-old golden retriever Cash discovering his extra sweet surprise from Santa. Cash had been feeling lonely since the death of his companion, Rosie, three years prior. Wanting to do something special for the pooch, Ahonen decided to get him a puppy, and she surprised him a little earlier than Christmas, by presenting him with his new friend on the 8th of December.

Of course, the video was irresistibly cute as the older pooch was filmed excitedly sniffing around a large wrapped box in the living room. Christmas is often described as the season of giving, and Ahonen perhaps gave her beloved Cash the best present of all. The older dog seemed intrigued that his Christmas present had the ability to bark and make sounds. Cash then quickly began to rip at the paper, wanting to get inside to see who his new friend was.

Once it was revealed to be a puppy, Cash went nuts. He happily began to lick and kiss the puppy. He was quite joyous as he cuddled his new friend – even going as far as turning to his owner with excitement as though trying to convey his gratitude and happiness at having a friend again. It was truly a special moment for Cash and the puppy.

As Ahonen explained, the family was always used to being a two-dog household. Then, three years prior, their Chihuahua-mix, Rosie, passed away, leaving Cash lonely.

She said, “They were best friends. Ever since she’s been gone he’s just slowed way down.”

Based on the video, it would seem that he received a re-invigoration for life in the form of a little puppy companion. Watch the sweet video below:
