True Hungarian Komondors are very rare in the US. This working group breed is a descendent of early Tibetan dogs and was bred to protect flocks of sheep. The breed is known for their long white-corded coats, which has earned them the nickname “Mop Dog.” These coats have been said to protect Komondors from wolf bites when they were guarding their sheep from predators. Komondors are very independent and taught to make their own decisions. They are gentle with family and friends but are defensive of intruders. The coat of a Komondor takes two full days to dry after getting wet.
