Big cats like tigers, lions, and jaguars are majestic animals. They’re also apex predators and most of us wouldn’t want to get up close and personal with them for fear of losing a body part or worse. We’ve all seen Tiger King.
One would think that letting a dog around a big cat would spell out inevitable disaster, but for one Jack Russell that was quite the opposite. Instead, it meant an opportunity for a beautiful friendship. Bullet the dog quickly became best friends with a jaguar after he moved to the Akwaaba Lodge in South Africa. The two animals are now inseparable buddies who do everything together, such as play, nap and eat.
While these two besties might be a rare sight in the animal kingdom, part of the reason for their success as friends was their age. Jag the Jaguar came to the facility as a baby therefore he needed some company. The owner of Akwaaba Lodge, Layla, decided that Bullet would make a great friend. And she was right.
“Every night Jag needed comfort so he took me in as a mom. And as I could not let him sleep with me all the time, I put Bullet with him,” she shared.
Layla added, “These two struck it off straight away. They don’t leave each other alone, they feed together, sleep together, do everything together. They are like brothers.”
The two animals will spend their time partaking in naps together, as well as playtime. They will even share their mealtimes. The fact that these two are such great companions is a testament to the love and kindness that exists within the animal kingdom – they’re all a lot more emotionally intelligent than we give them credit for.
