The Ibizan Hound is a slender and athletic member of the hound family. The breed comes in both smooth, longhaired and wire-haired varieties, with smooth being the most common. It’s suggested that Ibizan Hounds we brought by sea traders to Ibiza and surrounding islands of Spain around 700-900 BC. These dogs are extremely fast and agile, traditionally bred to hunt rabbits. They are an extremely intelligent breed and are known to be “escapologists” that require very tall fences and tightly locked gates.
