It is incredible what a forever home can do for a dog. When we first met our dog Bonita at the shelter, she was this morose-looking little black thing sitting at the back of her kennel. When my mom and I stopped in front of her kennel to get a better look, she came over and wagged her tail. She also stuck her paw through the bars of the kennel as though to communicate her desire to come home with us. She seemed like such a sweetheart that my mom and I were immediately intrigued and wanted to inquire about her. As we walked away to go ask about her, I remember she started whining this very yappy whine like she was sad about us walking away. That is when we knew we had to take her home. Once she was released to us and we were able to take her home, she was a whole different dog – so much more lively and happy.
It’s not uncommon for people to experience these kinds of transformations in the shelter dogs that they adopt. Animals certainly have feelings and emotions, and they’re able to express them. That is why you will always see a 180 turn in a shelter dog after their adoption because they know that they finally got what they’d been hoping for all along – a forever home. And one adorable Pitbull was pictured with the biggest smile possible after he was adopted. And the precious Pittie has not stopped smiling since! It’s quite heartwarming.
Meatball, or Meaty for short, was another sad shelter dog waiting for a miracle at an animal shelter in Central Valley, California. The days were quickly ticking down for the Pitbull who was facing eventual euthanasia if he didn’t find a home – and soon. Luckily for Meaty, the Fresno Bully Rescue ended up taking him in just in the nick of time. While with the Fresno Bully Rescue, Meaty was noticed by Lisa Reilly. She was immediately drawn to him because he looked so much like her own Pitbull whom she’d just lost three months prior.
Once Lisa was able to take him home, Meaty was overwhelmed with happiness and smiled. And he didn’t stop. He continued to smile, something that has made him quite the sensation online on his Instagram account. And there is a lot for Meaty to smile about. Not only does he now have a loving, forever family but he also has canine siblings as well! Meaty joined a big family of two other Pitbulls named Punky and Ricardo Tubbs, as well as two Dachshunds named Bitty and Dappe. It was his new canine siblings that really helped him settle into the new routine of his life. Given that he was so happy with his new life, the smiling Pittie found fame online for his smile. His Instagram profile now has 157,000 followers! It’s amazing what a smile can do for some people.
