Any police officer that I’ve ever spoken with says the same thing: no two days on the job are ever alike. Police officers have learned to expect the unexpected.
And recently, one police officer from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department was called out to a scene where a dog had been hit my a car. While the officer was waiting for help to arrive for the dog, he took the time to cover the injured canine with his coat.
The picture of Sgt. Chris Howlett’s act of kindness was posted to the Facebook page for the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, where it quickly gained attention.
There is also great news for the dog, who had sustained minor injuries, but he is expected to make a full recovery. While the pair were waiting in the snow for help to come, Howlett covered the injured dog with his jacket. It wasn’t long after that, that the dog was able to be reunited with his owners.
In the Facebook post, the police department said, “During times that there seems to be negative press towards law enforcement this shows a bit of compassion on the part of law enforcement and specifically our deputies.”
