Channing Tatum has been a national treasure ever since we saw him dance in the movie “Magic Mike.” But recently, it came out that he will be making an entire film about his beloved late dog! Guess that is one more reason to love the actor.
Now for most of us when we hear that there is a movie coming out about a dog, we automatically assume that it’s going to be a tearjerker. But, if you can’t stand a sad film involving a doggie then you’ll be happy to know that Tatum plans to make his dog film a comedy!
Tatum is be starring in the film, and his costar will be a Belgian Malinois named Lulu – the same as his late pup.

The 39-year-old Tatum shared Lulu with his ex-wife, Jenna Dewan. As everyone knows, the pair split back in 2018 – the same year that Lulu passed away, leaving both of them devastated.
When Lulu died, Dewan posted the news on her Instagram, where she dedicated a message to Lulu, thanking the canine for her “tireless love, protection and humor.”
The caption read, “To our sweet and fierce Lulu…thank you for being the best dog in the entire world and for fighting cancer for as long as you did. Thank you for your tireless love, protection and humor. Thank you for the adventures. Heartbroken doesn’t even come close to how it feels. But you will live on forever in our hearts and our memories…fly sweet angel.”

Following Lulu’s passing, Reid Carolin, Tatum’s longterm media partner, began work on the movie’s script. Tatum will be co-directing the project. The movie’s plot will be based off a story written by both Reid Carolin and Brett Rodriguez.
After the script was written, it went to a bidding war where several big name studios fought for the rights, with MGM coming out on top and gaining the film’s North American rights. The scheduled release is for the 2021 Valentine’s Day weekend. Sounds like it’ll be the perfect feel-good film to take your date to!
Excited to share the news about the film, Tatum teased people on Twitter by sharing a few pictures of a road trip that he and the real-life Lulu took together.
He tweeted, “A little over a year ago I got back from a road trip where I said goodbye to my best friend. Now I’m making a movie inspired by her. So proud to announce that DOG will be released by @MGM_Studios and in theaters next Valentine’s Day weekend.”

Tatum has had a working relationship with MGM studio, as they also circulated Tatum’s other films, 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. The plot for the upcoming film from MGM will revolve around Tatum playing the character of an Army Ranger named Briggs, who embarks on a road trip with his dog Lulu in order to make it on time to a fellow soldier’s funeral. We can only imagine that in the process there will be a lot of funny moments as well as touching moments.
We seriously can’t wait till the following year for this movie! It sounds like something we’re going to love. What do you guys think?
