Get ready for the most adorable friendship ever. Despite the ongoing pandemic, a boy and his neighbor’s golden retriever dog are on their way to becoming best friends. It all started after the boy, Troy, wrote a letter to his neighbors asking if they’d consider letting him look after their dog, Arthur, once the pandemic was over.
Following the wholesome offer from the young child, Arthur’s Instagram account shared a picture of the letter, saying, “I made friends with a small hooman today. He’s like basically me-sized. I bet I can get him to give me more treats than my hoomans.”
The letter was written in two types of ink – blue and red – and said, “Hello neighbors, my name is Troy, I’m in 4th grade and I’m just wondering if maybe after this virus you need a dog sitter and if so, I can take your dog on walks and more.”
Once the letter was posted on social media, it didn’t take long for it to gain thousands of likes as well as hundreds of comments. There were many people invested in the budding friendship who was curious to know if Arthur’s owners would take up Troy on his offer. And to be honest, we were a little curious too!
Arthur’s Instagram was quick to follow up with another picture not long after posting the viral one, saying, “Guess who’s meeting Troy today!!!!”
When people saw the updated post, the comments section lit up again as many people began posting their joy at learning that these two would finally be meeting up.
Arthur continued to keep his many followers in the loop, explaining he and Troy had met up for a socially distant meet up.
Arthur wrote, “Just a quick pupdate – me and the smol neighbor had a really great (socially distant) playdate today. Because he’s so smol we didn’t take any pics just for privacy purposes but he told me all about his dog fren and even showed me some dance moves!! I have a feeling we’re gonna be best buds!!”
While there was no actual picture of the two interacting for the first time, there were still plenty of people on social media who were thrilled by the news. In fact, one follower had perhaps the best and most relatable response when she said:
Because of the viral nature of this post, Arthur’s Instagram has received tons of new followers, prompting him to post yet again.
In a different post, he wrote, “Holy h*ck, y’all. Welcome to all my new frens!!!! To everybody new here, my name is Arthur and I’m the cutest floof on the block. My hoomans told me that me and my fren Troy broke the pupernet yesterday. I’m glad it brought me so many new frens!! Do any of you have treats to spare? 🥺 I celebrated my newfound celebrity status by trying to eat a dead baby bird because I gotta keep my hoomans humble.”
We really hope that Troy and Arthur can meet up face to face soon enough! This is so heartwarming we can’t help but smile.
