Beagle Caught On Camera Trying To Break Out Of The Shelter

Being a homeless dog must be the loneliest feeling in the world. No wonder poor Buttermilk, a beagle, has been trying her best to break out of The Isle Of Wight County Animal Shelter in Windsor, Virginia. In fact, shelter workers managed to capture the tiny Houdini mid-escape on video.

The shelter shared the picture on Facebook, along with a post saying, “For some strays, we can only assume how they come into our care… however lately Buttermilk has shown staff just how she probably ended up with us. Whoever adopts this cutie is going to need to keep a regular eye on her! She may be tiny but she is MIGHTY and has super climbing powers!”

In the footage, Buttermilk was caught in scaling the fence surrounding her kennel like a ninja. Once she realizes she’s been caught, she pauses before quickly scooting her way back down.

When the shelter worker asks her what she’s doing, a suddenly shy Buttermilk just wags her tail. It’s like she knows she was up to no good.
As it turns out, shortly after her viral fame ensued, Buttermilk had been moved to a different pen in order to control her sneaky escapades.

The shelter was sure to add a disclaimer stating, “NO BEAGLES WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS VIDEO. Buttermilk was not harmed in any way from her climb and staff gave her a prompt exam afterward. She also was moved into a different style kennel to prevent her from continuous climbs and escapes. Her stay won’t be long in that kennel as she does, in fact, have an approved adopter who will be picking her up after her spay surgery this week!”

Hopefully, this spunky little Buttermilk will be able to find a forever home with a family that will keep a close eye on this pint-sized Houdini.
