Animal Shelter Celebrates Emptying Their Kennels After Every Dog Gets Adopted

In light of the current pandemic, there is a lot of fear and uncertainty circulating around. However, there is also a lot of good – particularly human kindness. People everywhere are stepping up to make whatever difference they can. And I’m not just talking about the wonderful healthcare workers and first responders – whom we owe so much of our gratitude to, and who will never be properly thanked enough – I’m also talking about everyday people.

From picking up supplies for elderly neighbors to making donations to the local food banks and other charities to staying sheltered at home – ordinary people everywhere are doing their part to show people that we’re all united by the same solidarity. And that even extends to the animals of our society.

In fact, because of this, the Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control in Florida was thrilled to announce a really big win for their establishment. They were completely wiped out of adoptable dogs.

The shelter posted the good news to their Facebook.

They wrote, “This amazing milestone was made possible by the help and support of our entire community! Thank you to the shelter staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to care for, find homes for, and advocate for the pets who come through these doors; thank you to our incredible foster parents who open their hearts and homes to thousands of pets each year.”

They included a video of their kennel – which had all 48 runs that normally would be full of the shelter’s strays. However, the normally busy kennel was completely free of dogs. It was a beautiful sight to behold.

In fact, because of the current pandemic, there are other shelters across the US that are experiencing similar demands for adoptable dogs. It would seem that social distancing is making people take the leap and adopt or foster. In fact, the Chicago Animal Care and Control recently cleared their kennel of all their dogs as well. And other shelters are reporting record rates in adoptions.

Even though the Palm Beach County Animal Care Control was cleared out of dogs, the shelter still has other animals in need of forever homes, so they’re hoping to keep the adoptions going strong. While they try to re-home their shelter animals, they’re still sticking to social distancing guidelines.

So, if you’re someone who’s been considering adding to your family, this might be a great time to consider adopting. Of course, just because the loneliness and isolation is real right now, adopting a dog or other animal is a big responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Eventually quarantine will end, so don’t add a pet to your family if you don’t think you’ll be able to keep up with the responsibility once normal life resumes and we’re allowed outside again.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that you can’t do your part to help animals at the shelter. If you aren’t fully ready to make a lifelong commitment to a pet, but you still want a furry little quarantine buddy, then consider fostering. This will not only provide you with a furry friend, but it also provides a shelter animal with a chance to get out of a kennel and into the comfort of a home – not to mention you’ll be helping to clear up room in shelters.

Shelters can always use the help of foster families. Whichever is something you can do – adopt or foster – it is always good to see that shelter animals are able to get out of the shelter.
