To quote the late Avicii, “Oh, if the sky comes falling down, for you, there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do.” It’s a sentiment that most likely resonates with us when we think of our close friends or our family. When it comes to the people that we hold near and dear to us, there’s nothing that we wouldn’t do for them – especially if they were to find themselves in a potential life or death situation. And our pets feel the same exact way.
One brave pup named Remus was proof that when his buddy is in danger, he’s definitely got his back. The dog went the extra mile to make sure that he saved his friend’s life when he noticed the other dog struggling to swim. The incident occurred when the dog, Smokey, fell into the family’s pool. Smokey isn’t the best swimmer. If he ever does go in the pool, he usually splashes around in the shallow end for a few minutes before using the pool’s steps to climb out. But on this particular day, Smokey happened to fall into the deep end of the pool, where he had no means of escape. Fortunately for Smokey, his friend Remus was over for a playdate and he was willing and able to lend a helping paw.
Smokey’s owner had been inside the house at the time that the accident happened. She had no idea what had occurred until she noticed that Smokey was dripping. Curious, she checked the home’s surveillance camera. And caught on camera was the entire heroic act. In the video, you can see Remus trying to get Smokey out of the water from the edge of the pool. When that was proving difficult, the dog actually jumped into the water with his friend, and managed to push him up far enough so he could pull himself out of the pool. That is just amazing!
The owner explained in a Facebook post, “So Remus and Smokey got a little rambunctious. Smokey can swim just not well (as video shows) watch the video all the way to end. Jay recorded this off our security camera when he saw Smokey all wet! Remus may be a crazy pup but he’s got a heart of gold!! My hero.”
As stated to The Dodo, the family was completely blown away by what they saw on that security camera footage. Smokey’s owner shared the footage with her best friend and Remus’ owner, who cried after seeing her dog’s selfless and heroic act. Smokey is truly lucky to have a friend like Remus.
