Man Build’s A ‘Dog Train’ To Give Rescue Dogs A Ride Around Town

Two years ago, my father retired from his job as an aerospace engineer. Ever since then, he’s been driving my mother nuts around the house – he hardly ever leaves. The reason that he spends most of his time at home? The pets. My dad’s retirement has officially come to revolve around the cats as well as the wrens that he feeds out in the garden. But he’s happy. He’s enjoying his retirement. And that is important because retirement for many people are supposed to be the golden years. And what can be more golden than spending the majority of your retirement with dogs? That sounds about as perfect as it can get.

And one 82-year-old man from Fort Worth, Texas made headlines after pictures emerged of him living his absolute best life. The man, Eugene Bostick, has spent the majority of his retirement looking after stray dogs. Bostick lives on a big property with plenty of space. Being an animal lover, he has taken in stray dogs who have been abandoned, and he has provided them with a loving home. He did this prior to his retirement, but then after he officially retired he threw himself further into his rescue work. This then prompted Bostick to create a solution for a growing problem. The 82-year-old had come to care for so many dogs that taking them out on adventures around town was proving to be a little difficult. That is when he came up with the idea of creating a “dog train” in order to make getting around a little bit easier for everyone involved. It also meant that the retiree and his dogs could enjoy more outdoor adventures together.

Bostick began the construction of his dog train by cutting sizeable holes into plastic barrels and then hooking them up to a tractor. From there, the retiree was able to create a nine-car train for his dogs to enjoy. He soon became quite the sight around town. But besides the local community getting a kick out of the dog train, the ones who really love the train are the dogs themselves.

As he once shared with The Dodo, “Whenever they hear me hooking the tractor up to it, man, they get so excited. They all come running and jump in on their own. They’re ready to go. I’m getting up in age. I’m 80 now, so I suppose it can’t last too much longer, but I’ll keep it going as long as I can. The dogs have a great time. They really just enjoy it.”
