Family Lines Up Treats To Let Their New Puppy Name Himself

When it comes to naming your new furry family member, do you pick a human name, or do you give them a name that is more abstract and cutesy? Do you name them after a favorite character, or do you name them after a favorite food? How do you choose your pet’s name? It’s a very important question as naming your pet is a bit of a big deal. You want to pick something that fits their personality but is also unique at the same time. It’s not easy naming a pet.

A lot of people choose the names of their pets after hours of deliberation, but one pet parent had a more unique approach. They allowed their dog to pick its own name! Definitely a fresh idea that takes the pressure off!

After TikTok user Erika Maribel got a new puppy, she decided to hold a naming ceremony in order to unveil the pooch’s new name. But it wasn’t the typical naming ceremony that one would expect. Rather than having the name already selected, she chose instead to have the pup pick his own name.

Recording the moment on video, Erika laid out a series of names provided by her family members. On top of each piece of paper, she placed a treat. Then she released the puppy on the lineup and patiently waited for him to settle on a name. The little puppy went up and down and then ended up settling on the official name: Canuto!
