The AKC Announces Their 10 Most Popular Dog Breeds

Dogs make such incredible companions. No matter where you live, it’s never truly a home until you have a dog. We all know that dogs are bundles of joy that come in all different shapes and sizes. But when it comes to finding the right one for us, the choices are actually more diverse than we might have previously thought.

Each year the American Kennel Club puts out a list of the most popular dog breeds across the country. Their data come from the previous year’s AKC registration statistics. The list is comprised of 193 different breeds, but there are only a few that make the top 10. Some of the top 10 contenders are previous years’ favorites, while others are brand new to the list.

With so many different breeds to choose from, it all comes down to picking the one that would best suit you and your lifestyle. Check out the list below:

1. LABRADOR RETRIEVER

These highly popular dogs are great for families because they’re fun and active, while also being quite gentle. It’s their caring nature that also make them wonderful service dogs.

2. GERMAN SHEPHERD

These beautiful dogs are also quite loyal and intelligent. There is no better companion.

3. GOLDEN RETRIEVER

Golden Retrievers are also widely popular as family pets. And there is a reason so many people love these vivacious yet sweet dogs.

4. FRENCH BULLDOG

This breed definitely has the cuteness factor. They’re small, they’ve got big ears, and their faces are wrinkled. What’s not to love?

5. BULLDOG

If you want a chillout pooch with a lot of personality, then a bulldog is the breed for you.

6. POODLE

Poodles are quite active and intelligent dogs. But they’re also wonderful pets for those who suffer from allergies.

7. BEAGLE

This breed was originally bred as a hunting breed. However, they also make great companions as they’re very loyal.

8. ROTTWEILER

These dogs make great guard dogs since they’re loyal and loving, but they also have a lighthearted and silly side.

9. GERMAN SHORTHAIRED POINTER

This breed is quite energetic and require a lot of exercise. Additionally, they also need lots of attention and affection as well.

10. PEMBROKE WELSH CORGI

This is the breed’s first time nabbing a spot amongst the top ten. But these adorable little pups are quite affectionate and cute, so we can totally see their appeal.

While we all have different ideas of what the best breed is, we should also keep in mind that all these different breeds can easily be found in a rescue or a shelter. There is no need to shop, it’s always better to adopt.
