We don’t like to think of our dogs as sneaky. We want to believe that they’re sweet and pure little angels who would never play mind games with us. But our pups can sometimes be master manipulators when they want to be – especially when food is involved. I have a friend who has two little Jack Russell terriers who used to work in tandem to steal treats from the cupboard. She eventually had to get a baby lock in order to prevent their antics.
But the reality remains that sometimes – more often than we think – our beloved little pooches are plotting against us in order to get what they want. And one intelligent pup showed off his deceptive side when he hustles his owner for snacks. In the hilarious clip, the owner is seen standing in front of a bed with several seated dogs. They’re all waiting patiently for him to begin doling out the treats that are in his hands.
The owner goes down the line handing each one a treat. But the canine at the far end of the lineup is not finished. He wanted to more. In order to get more, the pup goes around to the other far end, pretending that he’s the other dog at the other end. His owner doesn’t seem to notice and gives him another treat. Then the clever pooch goes back to his original position! And he seems quite happy to keep up the charade in order to keep cashing in on treats.
