Whenever you see a dog wearing a cone, you can’t help but feel bad for them. They look so incredibly sad in their “cones of shame.” When my dog had to wear one after an operation it was the most heartbreaking thing to look at since she would just sit there on her dog bed with the most miserable look ever. To say that we tried to perk her up with all the bacon is an understatement.
But all dog owners are well aware of just how sad our dogs look when they have to wear a cone. This is why one dog owner decided to have a little fun with his dog’s circumstance – and the results were quite creative.
When Kaitlyn Cotter’s 1-year-old golden retriever, Gus, underwent his surgery to be nurtured, the dog owner decided that it was the perfect opportunity to have a little fun with his cone.
Since he had to wear the cone for a whole two weeks, Kaitlyn and her roommate, Hilary Turk, made the most out of the time by coming up with different methods of decoration for his cone.
What followed was an entertaining string of different silly costumes and looks that immediately went viral when they were posted on the internet.
Most of the looks were quite simple and easy to put together in as short as 15 minutes, while others, such as his basketball hoop look required a little more meticulous planning.
As Kaitlyn shared with Inside Edition, “The basketball net took us the longest because we were trying to figure out how to do that.”
The intricate design was formed by hand from yarn. It was just one of many costumes that were uploaded to the internet as a series of photos.
Since Gus couldn’t go outside for walks during his two weeks of wearing a cone, this was the perfect opportunity for both dog and owner to have fun together – even if Gus wasn’t entirely sure what was going on.
Regardless, he seemed to really enjoy himself, and Kaitlyn said, “As it went on, he actually liked it. When it got time to put the costume on, we were teaching him to sit and stay. He handled it pretty well.”
