Retirement parties. I’ve yet to retire but I’ve experienced my fair share of coworkers getting that sweet send-off that signals the end of their days of having to wake up at the crack of dawn in order to put on pants and commute to an office. Of course, these retirement parties are normally hard-won after years on the job. And for dogs who work in certain industries, giving them a proper send-off when they’re leaving a job is a wonderful idea.
For the Port of Seattle K9 Unit, it was a no-brainer to send off one of their own into retirement with a proper celebration. A 9-year-old black Labrador, Milo, had been with the Port of Seattle since 2012. When he retired, Milo was going to be living with his longtime partner and handler, Sgt. Chris Lewis, on a permanent basis. But before Milo could head off into retirement, he first had to have a proper party.
Milo got to celebrate his final day of work at the Seattle Airport surrounded by his coworkers and a giant doggie cake that was smothered in peanut butter and bacon.
No doubt he enjoyed himself at his well-earned leaving party. And we have no doubts that he will be living it up in his retirement.
