With the current pandemic making everyone stay indoors, there is no better time than the present to be a foster parent to a needy little dog or cat. Like many shelters across the states, the Harris County Animal Shelter is in desperate need of fosters in order to help them manage the overwhelming number of dogs they have received in the past few days which has caused a lot of overcrowding.
Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the shelter will deliver the dogs straight to your car in an effort to comply with social distancing guidelines in order to protect you, the community, and the shelter staff.
The HCAS is asking for foster volunteers from the Harris, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Liberty, Montgomery and Waller counties to please help them if you can, for as long as you can.
Fostering entails basically getting a temporary companion while you’re in quarantine to look after. If you are interested in being a foster pet parent for the HCAS, you’ll need email foster@phs.hctx.net with the subject line being, “Spring Break Foster.” Be sure to include in the message whether you want to foster a dog under 30 pounds or a dog over 30 pounds.
Once your foster dog is ready for pick-up it’ll be a curbside transaction. Fosters will be asked to download the QLess app, sign up, check in order to get into line, then they can drive to get their new foster companion.
In addition, the shelter is willing to provide food if needed.
