It’s a sad day for Modern Family fans, the precious little French bulldog who starred in the role of Stella has passed away only weeks after wrapping up the show’s final episode.
According to The Blast, the 10-year-old bulldog was actually called Beatrice in real life.
Modern Family cast member, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, posted a tweet that included a picture of him alongside Beatrice with the caption, “Rest in peace sweet Beatrice. We love you so much.”

Fans of the show best know Beatrice for her role of Stella, the pampered and beloved pet of Jay Pritchett, portrayed by Ed O’Neill. According to Beatrice’s owners, Beatrice and Ed O’Neill were as close off-screen as they were onscreen.
Guin and Steve Solomon, from Good Dog Animals, revealed to blogger Bodie on the Road that O’Neill constantly “looked out for” Beatrice while on set.
They added, “Ed O’Neill is in love with her! It’s very easy working with him because he brings Beatrice treats like popcorn and always looks out for her – like we’ll be doing scenes in the backyard by the pool and in between takes he’ll say, ‘Would you please get Beatrice an umbrella, she’s in the sun!'”
Beatrice joined the cast as Stella from the fourth season of Modern Family right up until the show finished up earlier in the year.
Modern Family isn’t Beatrice’s only credits, she has also appeared other shows like in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Workaholics.
Modern Family went on for 11 seasons, and the final episode of the series is set to air in a few weeks.
Rest in peace sweet little Beatrice, your role as Stella will never be forgotten.
