In a move that is quite ‘anti-holiday’ spirit, a puppy was abandoned by “Santa Claus.”
The 10-month-old canine was discovered alone in a park in Hurricane – a small Utah town close to the border with Arizona. He was wearing a makeshift harness that contained a handwritten note inside a plastic bag.
“Dog pound; from Santa Claus” the missive read.

The note introduced Oscar as a 10-month foxhound who loves kids, has lots of energy, and is already house-trained. However, apparently he had yet to be vaccinated. It was then signed off as “Sincerely Oscar.”
After a city parks employee discovered Oscar, they called animal control, who eventually transferred him to the Hurricane Animal Shelter in order to get checked out. There, staff determined that Oscar, who had a healthy weight and shiny coat, probably hadn’t been on his own too long.
Understandably, Oscar has been a little traumatized by his ordeal – something that would be frightening for any dog, especially one who is still a puppy.

A shelter volunteer, Sahleen, told St. George News, “Oscar is scared of his own shadow right now, but this is an incredibly sweet dog.”
At the moment, Oscar’s former family was still unknown, but the Hurricane Animal Shelter already has plans to put little Oscar up for adoption. Please contact them if you’d like to give this puppy the best Christmas gift ever: a forever home.
