The Scottish Deerhound is an extremely old bred that traditionally excelled at pursing and killing deer. In the olden days, no one of a rank lower than an earl was allowed to own a Scottish Deerhound. This law almost led to the breed’s extinction and was eventually abolished in the early 1800s. Scottish Deerhounds resemble a rough-coated Greyhound but are larger in size and bone structure. They require considerable exercise, especially when young, in order to ensure their proper health and development.
