Dog Finally Gets A Home For Christmas After Spending 500 Days In A Shelter

Ok, not going to lie, this story had me in bits because growing up, I had a dog who was also named Bonita, and who my family adopted from the shelter.

So hearing how this Bonita had spent a whole 500 days, which is nearly a year and a half, waiting for a home was really, really sad.

But thankfully, the story has a happy ending for Bonita as after spending all that time at the Niagara SPCA in Niagara Falls, New York, the five-year-old pit bull mix got the best Christmas present ever: a forever home.

Kimberly LaRussa, the event coordinator at the Niagara SPCA, told Fox 13, “Everybody loves her so much, and a lot of our employees are used to seeing her every day, so I know we are all going to miss her like crazy.”

LaRussa added, “She gets to be the lady of the house, which I’m sure is a dream come true for her.”

The video of Bonita leaving the Niagara SPCA is nothing short of heartwarming because you can see how impossible it is for her to contain her excitement.

Employees at the shelter threw Bonita a proper farewell by forming a human tunnel for her to pass under, as well as tossing glitter in the air for the happy dog.

Bonita’s new owner, Ray Kinz, has since started an Instagram page for the pit bull mix in order to keep fans up to date on how she’s settling in.

Amazing ending for Bonita, I hope she is very happy and loved in her new home for many years to come.
