Dog Doesn’t Understand Why A Statue Won’t Play Fetch With Him

What I love about dogs is their heart. They are always open and friendly with everyone that they meet – and they spread that joy around so willingly. And one Border Collie was caught on camera doing just that – even if he made a bit of a blunder.

Hurley was walking on the beach when he got an urge to play a game of fetch. He approached a stranger to see if they would kindly toss the ball for him, but he was left sorely disappointed.

Unfortunately, Hurley had made a mistake. The “human” was actually a cast iron art installation by Anthony Gormley. He set up the exhibit at Crosby Beach in Liverpool.

Hurley’s little blunder was a result of his walk with his owner, Adam Shore. While out with Shore, Hurley ran off in search of a playmate – and that is when he came across the large statue.

In a captured video, the 8-year-old border collie happily drops the ball at the statue’s feet and waits. Nothing happens, so Hurley begins to bark, asking for the ball to be thrown. Sadly for the friendly Hurley, nothing was happening.

But the tenacious dog kept trying to engage – no doubt confused as to why this “person” didn’t want to play with him. It’s actually a bit sad to watch Hurley repeatedly drop the ball, bark, point towards the ball, and bark some more. But the video just goes to showcase how lovely dogs really are – they love to spread cheer around to strangers, even if those strangers are statues.
