Most tires end up in landfills after they have completed their purpose. Sometimes they’ll get turned into a swing – but for the most part, used tires are just discarded and seen as trash. However, one Brazilian artist is giving old tires a new life.
Amarildo Silva picks up any old, disused, or abandoned tires that he sees and turns them in to something incredible: beds for animals. First, he paints them bright colors, before drilling holes in them to add handles. After this, Silva adds comfy bedding and pillows for animals. When Silva sells them on, he also personalizes them by painting the name of the pet on the side of the bed. They can be used for family pets, as well as little safe havens for strays on the streets.

Besides doing something positive, Silva is hoping to spread a message about staying safe on the streets, as his hometown is riddled with violence. That is why on his Instagram, Silva tries to send positive messages, saying, “The Brazil that I want, is a Brazil with less violence and more work. I’m not making apology for crime, quite the contrary, do as I do instead of a weapon, put a tool in your hand and go yourself fix your life and who knows change the reality of our Brazil.”

While his beds for animals are amazing works of art, Silva also turns tires into footstools, bar stools, recycling bins, as well as Christmas trees. You can follow him on his Instagram to keep up with his work!
